A New Year Of Opportunities ~ A New Year Of Possibilities

As we emerge into the New Year, let’s not look back at our past mistakes or disappointments as failures. Instead, let’s embrace them and use them as tools that will enable us to turn the opportunities that come along the way, into possibilities.

Sandrah Chalmers Art Palette will be bringing you in 2012 many more creations that will blow you away. I will work with new materials and new media. It is going to be the year to take SCAP to a new level. Stay tuned!

Face In The Photograph

BEHIND THE SCENE

In December 2011,  I received a call from a longtime friend, who resides in Miami Beach Florida. He told me to have found a beautiful photograph of an unknown woman in the beauty ad section of a catalog. He asked me to transform this image into a painting. When I received the photograph, I just knew that I could transform it into a one of a kind Masterpiece.

I first began by creating sketches to ensure accuracy and proper dimensions of the facial features. My next challenge was to find the right blend of paint to recreate the exact skin tone of this beautiful black woman. Finally, it took about six different acrylic paint pigments to achieve the exact tone that I was looking for. I would describe it as a “caramelized cinnamon” skin tone.

The painting was created on a 24”x30” cotton canvas, covered with white gesso. Compared to the original photograph, I am estimating that the image was enlarged about 12 times to achieve the scale on the canvas. For the background, I used some Titan Buff acrylic paint to add some warmth.

 SCAP Wall Project

I’ve been asked by many of my clients over the last few years whether Sandrah Chalmers Art Palette creates murals. My answer has always been, no. I personally do not like murals for the simple fact that you cannot take them with you if you decide to move. After many months of research, it suddenly hit me that it is in fact possible to create pieces that could be mounted to the wall and create a more 3D mural effect. The Artist Panel will then be used as the painting surface, instead of your wall. One of the perks of having panels hanging on your walls is that the installation in not permanent. That baby’s room does not have to look like a baby’s room forever. The panels may be repainted and redesigned for a brand new look.

Sandrah Chalmers Art Palette (SCAP) Wall Project will offer you the quality and professional artwork, designed specifically for your wall space. You tell me the room and I’ll tell you the way: baby’s room, kid’s room, home office, living room, business. Any space within your home or business may have the artistic impact that you are looking for. Forms, movements, colors, creativity, yes, these walls can have it all.
